How to maintain hygiene in the kitchen

According to data from the World Health Organisation, more than 500 million persone fall ill each year worldwide due to bacteria, viruses and chemicals contaminating food. More than 20 million persone in the European area alone.
A significant figure that puts quality and the safety of the food we bring into our kitchens.
In this article we would like to give you some practical and useful advice for maintaining hygiene in the kitchen and guarantee you health and safety.

Wash your hands thoroughly before touching food: is the first good habit to learn to reduce the risk of food contaminationone. Let us wash our hands before and after touching food, especially if we touch raw meat, eggs and seafood.

Keep support and working surfaces clean: it is good practice to sanitise surfaces that come into contact with food, including refrigerator shelves. Use different sponges or cloths for cleaning different surfaces.

Prefer detergents free of health-damaging chemicals: Cleaning detergents should be used according to the instructions, remember to always rinse with a clean, wet cloth to wipe away any residue of the detergent.

Store food correctly: Storing food at the right temperature prevents spoilage and an increase in the bacterial load. Storing food correctly also means avoiding contact between cooked and raw food.

Choose the products you bring to the table carefully: the food chain is increasingly controlled and safe, but before choosing a product, it is good to carefully readone the informaations on the label regarding the origin of the raw material and its traceability.

Keep the dustbin away from places where food is storedone:
if the rubbish binone is not equipped with a pedal, always remember to wash your hands after throwing away the rubbish and place it in a place away from the doors where you store food.

Washing hands thoroughly, keeping work and counter surfaces clean, choosing detergents free of chemicals harmful to health, carefully choosing and storing the food we bring into our kitchens, keeping rubbish separate from food, are small buone habits that can improve our kitchen hygiene.
